The Beginnings
The house was built in the 1980s by my father-in law after he purchased a block of land from a subdivided old dairy farm in southern Tasmania. His main passion was being outside with the horses, a hobby in which both he, his wife and his daughter adored. His son, my husband, was more of a fan of the two wheeled motorised forms of transport. Sadly my father-in-law passed away from cancer in 2021, his dying wish was that we bought out his wife and daughter from the property, renovate it and allow his horse to remain on the land until he too passed and that as much as reasonably possible the other horses that were agisted there would also be able to stay. We were true to out word, we bought the house and have lovingly renovated it. The process was emotionally hard as it felt like we were invading his home, through the whole process we wished we had been doing this for him to live in as his life would have been easier as not only did he care for the horses he was also a full time carer for his wife who sadly acquired a brain injury. More than anything we would like to know if he approves of what we have done.
Although it is still a work in progress it is available for short term rental through Airbnb.

Hay Day - January 2021
The day we had the paddocks baled and collected, stacked and stored them to feed the horses in the following year. This was his last 'good’ day before passing, lots of neighbours came to help and he sat and chatted all day watching the happenings!
